Our Practice

Swans Veterinary Services was established in 1992 by Drs David & Nicole Swan. They began as a 2 vet & 1 multi-tasked employee business. Since then, SVS has earned the respect of the beautiful coastal town of Esperance, and surrounding areas with a professional caring attitude and friendly atmosphere. The business took on another partner in 2006, Dr Enoch Bergman, at the time employing 9 staff. Currently, SVS employs a total of 20 staff, including 8 vets.

SVS is the only practice in WA to achieve AVA (Australia Veterinary Association) New Graduate Friendly practice status. It was also awarded the Inaugural Excellence in Customer Service award in 2001, a national award from the AVA. 2006 found SVS as a finalist in the Esperance Chamber of Commerce awards for Quality Customer Service. Collectively, we pride ourselves on providing quality veterinary care & excellent customer service.

SVS provides a service over a 250km radius surrounding Esperance, including a weekly clinic in Ravensthorpe. They also travel to Kalgoorlie to service equine clients and to Norseman for small animal clinics.  Our daily workload is extremely varied, but mainly dealing with beef cattle, sheep, horses, dogs & cats. Our staff are also qualified to deal with alpacas, small furries & wildlife.
Our up to date hospital facilities include a separate surgical theatre, digital radiologyfacilities, ultrasound, endoscope, ultrasonic dentistry equipment & extensive orthopaedic equipment for those frequent and unfortunate accidents.  An extensive range of merchandise, and food products can also be viewed and purchased at the clinic.

Our large animal component of the practice is also well equipped primarily servicing beef cattle, sheep & horses. SVS are the largest cattle practice in Southern WA. Annual seminars are held on current, helpful aspects of beef cattle production for our local clients and Enoch is frequently a speaker at state, national & international conferences on cattle.
In 2006, SVS set up Australia’s first commercially available laboratory for the testing of easily harvestable ear notch tissue for the diagnosis of animals Persistantly Infected with the Bovine Viral Diarrhoea Virus (Pestivirus) in cattle herds. Working with veterinary clinics all over Australia, Swans provides testing as well as consulting services for the management of BVDV.

Because the staff at SVS are passionate about animals, the practice is always interested to hear from those of you who would like to volunteer as short term RSPCA or wildlife carers for those animals who are less fortunate.
For more information about how YOU can make a difference for a less fortunate animal, give the clinic a call on 08 9071 5777 for a chat.
