Ultrasonography and Endoscopy

Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that is used for looking at soft tissues such as muscle, tendons, and internal organs. It is routinely used alongside xrays for lameness examinations, and also for reproductive examinations and abdominal imaging such as in the treatment of colic. Our ultrasound is fully portable so it can be used anywhere, anytime.

Endoscopy is available for upper airway examinations in horses, allowing a close and accurate assessment of a horse’s airway. The aim of an airway scope is to assess the back of the throat, larynx and trachea for any structural or functional abnormalities that may be affecting a horse’s ability to perform in its discipline, or causing respiratory signs such as coughing. Endoscopy is often combined with a bronchoalveolar lavage to obtain cellular samples from the mucous in the respiratory tract. The samples taken are then tested for inflammation and infection to help make a diagnosis.
